A Bible study is just that, a study of what has been written in the Bible. Word preached at church, should be found inside the covers of the Word. If it’s not found inside the Word, there is no value with what is being taught.
It is nothing more than a message from man, a man that is unable to save us from Everlasting Torment and destruction. Let’s only follow what we find written in His Word.
Let’s also realize, it’s only from what we’ve read in the Word and applying that into our lives that will allow us to get anything out of this study.
The verses we are going to study tonight:
Genesis 12:1-3; Exodus 14:26-31; 2 Samuel 7:12-17; Matthew 9:35; Mark 1:14; Luke 4:43; John 3:5; Acts 8:12; Luke 18:31-34; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; acts 20:24; Ephesians 2:8; Romans 3:23-24; Titus 21:1-14; Ephesians 1:7; 2 Corinthians 12:9.
A major debate among many, even today in the 21st century, is the question asking if there is more than ONE gospel found in the Holy Bible, and if there is, how can that be.
The word ‘gospel’ comes from the Greek word euangelion, which means ‘good news.’ In the Old Testament, the word ‘gospel’ was used to announce a good message.
Abraham received a ‘gospel,’ back in the OT about the good news God had promised to the Israelites.
Genesis 12
vs1 ‘…Now the Lord had said unto Abram, get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee…’
vs2 ‘…and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing…’
vs3 ‘…and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
Moses received a ‘gospel,’ back when he was told about the freeing of the Jewish nation through the exodus by God.
Exodus 14
vs26 ‘…And the Lord said unto Moses, stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen…’
vs27 ‘…And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea…’
vs28 ‘…And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them…’
vs29 ‘…But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left…’
vs30 ‘…Thus the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the seashore…’
vs31 ‘…And Israel saw that great work which the Lord did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord, and his servant Moses …’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
David received a ‘gospel,’ back in his days when God promised him that one day he would become a king.
2 Samuel 7
vs12 ‘…And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom…’
vs13 ‘…He shall build a house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom forever…’
vs14 ‘…I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men…’
vs15 ‘…but my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee…’
vs16 ‘…And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established forever…’
vs17 ‘…According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
Gospel of the Kingdom
The gospel of the Kingdom is a message about Jesus’ work to save sinners and the beginning of a new creation. The gospel of the kingdom also describes the kingdom of God as a place of peace and righteousness.
Matthew 9:35 ‘…And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
Mark 1:14 ‘…Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
Luke 4:43 ‘…And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
John 3:5 ‘…Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
Acts 8:12 ‘…But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
None of these earlier occurrences of ‘gospels,’ had anything to do with God’s Grace and His forgiveness of their sins. These men from earlier times had no idea of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.
How can I make that statement and be assured that I am not lying? I can make that statement because ‘the Holy Bible’ tells me that.
Luke 18
vs31 ‘…Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished…’
vs32 ‘…For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on…’
vs33 ‘…and they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again…’
vs34 ‘…And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
These men couldn’t speak about the death, burial and resurrection because they didn’t understand what it meant for Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. This world was unknowing about this message until Jesus told the apostle Paul.
Paul was told the message, and it is the ONLY Gospel that will save us today.
Gospel of Grace
1 Corinthians 15
vs1 ‘…Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand…’
vs2 ‘…by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain…’
vs3 ‘…For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures…’
vs4 ‘…and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures …’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
Acts 20:24 ‘…But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the Gospel of the Grace of God…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
My favorite verse in the Bible comes into play as soon as the word ‘GRACE’ is brought up.
Ephesians 2:8 ‘…For by GRACE are ye saved through FAITH; and that not of yourselves: it is the GIFT of God…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
It has been through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that we have been given the GIFT of Grace by God Himself.
Romans 3
vs23 ‘…for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…’
vs24 ‘…being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
Titus 2
vs11 ‘…For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men…’
vs12 ‘…teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world…’
vs13 ‘…looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ…’
vs14 ‘…who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
Ephesians 1:7 ‘…in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
2 Corinthians 12:9 ‘…And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
We are saved today because God wanted it that way.
There is nothing extra that we can do that would give us a little bit more ‘pull’ or an advantage.
We are promised ‘LIFE’ because God wants it that way.
Keep your Bibles open and continue in your study of the Word. We will never know too much of what God has promised us.
I love you ALL. Always remember, that Jesus loves ALL of us even that much more.
There will be the day when Jesus will teach us all what the word LOVE, really means.
Jesus, I pray that those ears and eyes, either listening or seeing this message today would be opened to the very fullest and allow Your love to come inside their lives and comfort them. Teach us Jesus. Protect us. We love You. Amen InHIM. ><)))o>
