Ephesians 2:8 ‘…For by GRACE you have been SAVED through FAITH; and this is not of yourselves, it is a GIFT of God…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)
Let’s together, open the Word of God this morning, and study what we have been given. Allow me to help you in your study and search the Bible what God has intended for us to hear.
The verses we are going to study tonight:
Matthew 15:24, :25, :26, :27, :28; Luke 4:16-17, 18-20; Isaiah 61:1-2.
Jesus didn’t come for the Gentile. This will probably shock many individuals.
Jesus came to this earth to fulfill the promises that were made to the Jewish forefathers from way back in the OT.
‘…But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
‘…But He answered and said, I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)
‘…Then Jesus replied, I have been sent only to the lost sheep of the people of Israel…’ GNT (Good News Translation)
‘…Jesus replied to his disciples, God has sent me to help only the people of Israel. They are like sheep that have lost their way…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)
This lady spoken about in chapter 15 had a daughter that was severely possessed. She was asking Jesus for His help to cure her daughter and vs24 was His response to her.
Many individuals, especially those that have never opened a Bible before, might be shocked when they read this.
After Jesus had voiced that He had come only for the Jews, the woman continued to ask Jesus for His help.
Matthew 15:25
‘…Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
‘…But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, Lord, help me…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)
‘…At this the woman came and fell at his feet. Help me, sir! she said…’ GNT (Good News Translation)
‘…Then the woman came to Jesus, and she went down on her knees in front of him. Sir, please help me, she said…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)
And once again, Jesus refused to help the woman’s daughter, He responded:
Matthew 15:26
‘…But he answered and said, it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
‘…Yet He answered and said, it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)
‘…Jesus answered, it isn’t right to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs…’ GNT (Good News Translation)
‘…Jesus did answer the woman this time. He said, it is not right to take food from the children and then throw it to the dogs…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)
The woman still not giving up, she made a final plea to Jesus.
Matthew 15:27
‘…And she said, truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
‘…And she said, yes, Lord; but please help, for even the dogs feed on the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)
‘…That’s true, sir, she answered, but even the dogs eat the leftovers that fall from their masters’ table…’ GNT (Good News Translation)
‘…The woman replied to Jesus. Yes sir, that is true. But even the dogs eat the small pieces of food that fall from their master’s table…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)
I can just see the poor woman’s face. You must be able to realize and sense all the talk and rumors that would have been going around the area speaking of the wonders that Jesus had been performing, healing those Jewish people around the area.
The woman could only focus on what her daughter needed.
With her last statement in vs27, Jesus responds in vs28 exactly how the woman had wished for Jesus to respond.
Matthew 15:28
‘…Then Jesus answered and said unto her, oh woman, great is thy faith be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
‘…Then Jesus said to her, oh woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you desire. And her daughter was healed at once…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)
‘…So, Jesus answered her, you are a woman of great faith! What you want will be done for you. And at that very moment her daughter was healed…’ GNT (Good News Translation)
‘…Jesus answered her, woman, you show clearly that you believe in God. God will do what you have asked. At that moment the woman’s daughter became well again…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)
The Bible is full of stories just like this one that show what ‘FAITH’ has gotten a person.
There was the young man, blind since his youth that was healed at the bath, because he believed.
There was the woman that bled, her bleeding was stopped because of her faith.
Jesus didn’t come for the Gentile person, but FAITH doesn’t matter who it is portrayed by.
FAITH is what is going to save each one of us.
We Must BELIEVE.
Jesus foretold what was going to happen and sometimes He didn’t come right out with what was going to happen. He allowed for FAITH to be the determining factor.
Jesus was God. He knew the future. He knew what was going to happen.
In Luke 4, we can read where Jesus went into the synagogue, on the sabbath day and He read from the scroll of Isaiah.
Luke 4
vs16 ‘…And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read…’
vs17 ‘…And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
Jesus stood up and began to read the scroll.
Luke 4
vs18 ‘…The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised…’
vs19 ‘…to preach the acceptable year of the Lord…’
vs20 ‘…And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
Jesus cut vs2 of Isaiah in half. He only read half of the verse.
Isaiah 61
vs1 ‘…The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound…’
vs2 ‘…To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn…’ AKJV (Authorized King James Version)
The reason Jesus stopped was because …
‘…and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn…’ is speaking of the Tribulation and Jesus knew that the Tribulation was not going to take place in the order, like it said it would, in Isaiah.
There was the ‘church age’ which was going to place first.
Jesus did not let His disciples know about the ‘church age.’ Jesus knew, but He did not come to tell mankind about the timeline that was chosen by God. He came only to fulfill OT prophesies.
This tiny altercation found in Luke 4 has the same effect to it that the MYSTERY that was told to the apostle Paul has had on mankind. Part of that explanation of that mystery is that description of the church age that was kept from Jesus’ mouth.
It wasn’t time for this world to know what was about to happen. Why do people think the same thing could happen once again to us in the future.
God is God … He can do whatever He wants to do whenever He wants to do it. It would be very foolish for any man to think they know exactly what is going to happen.
Jesus has been referred to as the Word in the Bible. Jesus knew the Word before He stood up on that sabbath morning in the synagogue.
Jesus knew.
It is going to be very hard for some people when they realize they don’t know as much as they thought they did.
There will be those people in the front seats at church, they won’t be able to believe it when they are passed by when that sound comes from heaven on that day when Jesus returns to gather ‘HIS’ church.
Not the church that prints their own reading material or the church with objects hanging from one end to the other. Faith doesn’t require the need to see something. Through Faith it is believed to be true.
Keep your Bibles open and continue to study the Word that He has given to us. Keep reading of those mysteries that we all will understand in an instant, a blinking of an eye.
I love you all.
Jesus, I pray that those ears and eyes, either listening or seeing this message today would be opened to the very fullest and allow Your love to come inside their lives and comfort them. Teach us Jesus. Protect us. We love You. Amen
