Psalm 23 – the Lord is my Shepherd

Friday 112924

Ephesians 2:8-9 ‘…For it is by God’s grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God’s GIFT, so that no one can boast about it…’ GNT (Good News Translation)

You and I together, let’s open and study the Word that we have ALL been given. Use me to help you study the Bible and allow me to be used to help you search what God wants for us to hear.

Let’s only follow what we find that pertains to us and realize that it’s only from our own effort in studying His Word that is going to let us take anything away that we can use in our lives by ourselves and with those that we love.

The verses we are going to study tonight:

Romans 8:31-39; Hebrews 13:6; Psalms 23:1-6.

In my attempt to spread the Word, to the people in the 21st century, I am posting a new lesson every morning.

I am posting my lessons on eleven (11) different sites.

Tonight’s lesson I hope does not keep people from reading the lesson. There are going to be times and trials in this life that are going to be difficult for us, the Christian believer. But it is our FAITH and trust in God that is going to keep us moving forward. It is God in our lives that is going to keep us from running away to hide from the unknown. It is God that is going to keep us strong.

Satan is afraid of you and me. He’s afraid because He knows we have Jesus on our side.

He’s stupid enough to think he can overpower God but that’s just the way that he thinks.

Romans 8

vs31 ‘…What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us…’

vs32 ‘…He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things…’

vs33 ‘…Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies…’

vs34 ‘…Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us…’

vs35 ‘…Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword…’

vs36 ‘…As it is written: For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered…’

vs37 ‘…No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us…’

vs38 ‘…For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers…’

vs39 ‘…neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord…’ NIV (New International Version)

We should never be afraid of anything that we are unsure of. God is there and He is going to take care of us.

Hebrew 13:6 ‘…So we say with confidence, the Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me…’ NIV (New International Version)

To be honest, for a week now I have been walking around, reminding myself of my mothers-in-law’s favorite verse, found in the Bible.

Allow me the pleasure to read it to you:

Psalm 23

vs1 ‘…The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want…’

vs2 ‘…He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters…’

vs3 ‘…He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake…’

vs4 ‘…Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me…’

vs5 ‘…Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over…’

vs6 ‘…Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever…’ KJV (King James Version)

Pat repeated this verse over and over again.

Breaking down vs1 ‘…The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want…’ KJV (King James Version)

In other versions:

‘…The Lord is my Shepherd; I will not be in need…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)

‘…The Lord is my Shepherd; I have everything I need…’ GNT (Good News Translation)

‘…The Lord takes care of me, like a shepherd with his sheep. I have everything that I need…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)

As I was reading vs1, I wanted to write ‘NEED’ instead of ‘want’ as it is written in the KJV, but then I see the NASB version.

Then when I copied and pasted the GNT version and it said exactly what it should, I have everything I need.

Breaking down vs2:

‘…He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters…’ KJV (King James Version)

‘…He lets me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)

‘…He lets me rest in fields of green grass and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water…’ GNT (Good News Translation)

‘…He takes me to green fields where I can rest. He leads me to streams of water where I can drink…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)

Breaking down vs3:

‘…He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake…’ KJV (King James Version)

‘…He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for the sake of His name…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)

‘…He gives me new strength. He guides me in the right paths, as he has promised…’ GNT (Good News Translation)

‘…He gives me new strength in my life. He is my guide to the right paths. He does this to give honour to his name…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)

Breaking down vs4:

‘…Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me…’ KJV (King James Version)

‘…Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)

‘…Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord, for you are with me. Your shepherd’s rod and staff protect me…’ GNT (Good News Translation)

‘…I may walk through a valley that is as dark as death. But I will not be afraid of any danger. This is because you are with me, Lord. Your stick and your shepherd’s pole protect me from danger…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)

Breaking down vs5:

‘…Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over…’ KJV (King James Version)

‘…You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)

‘…You prepare a banquet for me, where all my enemies can see me; you welcome me as an honored guest and fill my cup to the brim…’ GNT (Good News Translation)

‘…You prepare a big meal for me while my enemy’s watch. You put olive oil on my head. You bless me so much that my cup is completely full…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)

Breaking down vs6:

‘…Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever…’ KJV (King James Version)

‘…Certainly, goodness and faithfulness will follow me all the days of my life, And my dwelling will be in the house of the Lord forever…’ NASB (New American Standard Bible)

‘…I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life; and your house will be my home as long as I live…’ GNT (Good News Translation)

‘…I am sure that you will always be good to me.
You will love me all the days of my life. That will never change. I will live in the Lord’s house for as long as I live…’ EASY (Easy English Bible)

REFRESHED

I am at peace. Questions will always remain; however, Pat’s Bible quote will never be so far away I will not remember …

That is what the Word is for us. It is that little piece of strength that we will need to make it through. All we have to do is remember that it is there, and half the battle is already over.

I know Psalms was written to the Jew.

With that being said, ALL Scripture has been Inspired by God for ALL of us to see.

We don’t have to follow the writings that were meant for the Jewish individual, but there are some writings written to the Jew that are comforting to our  soul.

These writings to the Jew, they will not SAVE us Gentile’s from Everlasting destruction, but there is comfort in the words.

Always remember, God knows what we’re going through. He knows the struggles that we’re going to have. He sees the struggle we’re having right now at this moment.

Just talk to Him and ask Him for His assistance, remember that Armor that He has given us to protect us from the evil desires of Satan.

Keep your Bibles always open and ready for you to grab on to. Study His Word every day. Keep yourselves prepared.

I love y’all.

Jesus, I pray that those ears and eyes, either listening or seeing this message today would be opened to the very fullest and allow Your love to come inside their lives and comfort them. Teach us Jesus. Protect us. We love You. Amen
